I am humbled to have been given the opportunity to utilize my gift of art to shine light on and educate those within our community about Andy Wright. Andy Wright was one of nine youth and teens, known as the Scottsboro Boys, wrongfully accused and convicted in 1931. He was 19 years old at the time of his arrest.
Andy Wright was known as serious, responsible, and cautious. He had a strong work ethic and was very protective of his younger brother, Roy Wright. Roy was 12 years old at the time of his arrest. Andy had integrity, and he always did the right thing. Six of the nine wrongful convictions were overturned, and three were subsequently pardoned posthumously. This work was commissioned for display in the group exhibition, Their Lives in Color: The Scottsboro Portraits.
